And we’re off!

Welcome to Green Lion Woodworks!

Back in 2014, my family moved to a new house, a small rancher on a little over an acre of land, with grand plans to renovate and expand the 1,200 square foot 1970s-era house. We did that (in grander fashion than we’d originally intended) and ended up with a larger dining room that seemed appropriate for our existing four-toot table. We needed something about twelve feet long.

That’s a longer table than is generally sold “off the shelf” even for an expandable table with wings, and the thought of spending thousands of dollars for a custom-made table was… unappealing.

In ages past, when I was in high school, I’d done some woodworking in my grandfather’s basement shop, so I said to myself, “Self, you can build a dining room table!” Understand, I hadn’t done any woodworking for about 30 years. I had a few power hand tools and a table saw from Harbor Freight that had been used to rip PVC decking boards. But… I had the internet.

Dining Room Table

I built the dining room table and it looks grand enough for the space. It’s a little bit “farmhouse” style, which is not the style of our house, but we dressed it up enough that it works. That started my foray back into woodworking. Since then, I’ve built numerous small projects for our house, built shop projects, finished building out a library, and accumulated a lot more tools (with an ever-growing wish list of new, and more expensive, tools).

I am primarily a hobbyist woodworker doing projects for my own use and occasionally for friends and family. I have sold a few items (hence the creation of Green Lion Woodworks), but that’s not generally my focus. I enjoy the hobby and learning about woodworking techniques, old and new. I started this website as a place to showcase some of my projects and possibly ramble on about woodworking and all the shenanigans that go along with it.

I hope you enjoy perusing it!
